INSPIRATION AND HOPE...
The winners of the 2011 Schools Bible Project went to Parliament in December to collect their prizes – Bibles, personal book prizes, and cheques for their schools. These were presented by Baroness Cox, one of the Trustees of Christian Projects. She spoke movingly about the inspiration that the Scriptures can give, and placed this in the context of her work for those who are persecuted for their religious beliefs, and for children rescued after being abducted and forced to become child-soldiers in parts of Africa. In particular, she described how two boys, both kidnapped in a civil war and forced to take part in brutal fighting, were finally rescued through the Humanitarian Relief Trust, and wanted to show their thanks. They did this by carefully copying out their favourite Bible verses and presented them to her. “They had learned these verses by heart and treasured them, and they wanted me to have them, too. It made me realise just how important and beautiful it is to be able to know something of the Bible. This is a book which has inspired men and women for centuries.”
The Schools Bible Project, which has now been running for over 20 years, aims to support and assist schools in Britain in showing their students how to understand something of the role and importance of the Scriptures.
